Answer Engine and Generative Engine Optimisation Agency

Since Google Launched Ai Overviews into its SERPs back in May 2024 this has had a profound impact on how users carry out their search.

In order to stay ahead of the pack, Stack Digital has launched its AEO/GEO service which covers optimising your website in order to position you front and centre on the AI search queries.

Our team will also rank your website on: Google’s AI Mode, Chat GPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity and more…

How do we rank you for Google’s Ai Overviews?

This is certainly not a straight-forward question, however, we do deploy some of the AIO / GEO tactics below:

  • Assess Long Tail Question-driven Search Queries and Target them in your Metadata, Content, Schema.
  • Establish which webpages are associated with your questions and answers and optimise them
  • Utilise Structured Data + FAQ Schema
  • Deploy Short form content that is easily crawled by LLM’s
  • Use Bulleted lists, Tables and Headers where appropriate to present data
  • Deploy an LLM’s.txt file
  • Improve Page Speed and User Experience
  • Align Citations and NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) + Local SEO Elements
  • Assess and Deploy Internal links
  • Earn High quality backlinks

How Generative Engine Optimisation Actually Works

The process starts with how these systems find information. Most generative engines combine a large language model with a retrieval layer. When someone asks a question, the system searches an index (often a conventional search index), pulls back a handful of relevant pages, and then writes a response grounded in those sources. To appear in that response, your page first has to be retrievable, which means the fundamentals of crawlability, indexation and topical relevance still matter.

Retrieval alone isn’t enough, though. The model then decides which passages are worth using. Content that performs well tends to share a few traits. It answers questions directly and early, rather than burying the point beneath a long introduction. It’s structured into clear, self-contained sections that can be lifted out and quoted. It includes specific facts, figures and named sources that give the model something concrete to cite. And it’s written with genuine authority, backed by expert authorship, original data or first-hand experience.

Reputation beyond your own site also plays a significant role. Language models learn from, and retrieve across, the wider web, so brand mentions on trusted publications, reviews, forums and industry resources help establish your business as a credible entity worth referencing.

Measuring GEO is still maturing. Rather than tracking rankings alone, marketers monitor how often their brand appears in AI-generated answers, how it’s described, and which competitors are cited alongside it.

Ultimately, GEO rewards the same thing good SEO always has: clear, trustworthy, genuinely useful content.

What is Answer Engine Optimisation?

Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) is the practice of structuring content so that search engines and AI assistants can pull it out and present it as a direct answer to a user’s question. Instead of competing for a click from a list of blue links, AEO targets the answer box itself, whether that’s a featured snippet, a People Also Ask result, a voice assistant’s spoken reply or an AI-generated summary.

The approach starts with understanding questions. Answer engines are built to resolve specific queries quickly, so AEO begins with research into what your audience actually asks. Tools such as keyword platforms, People Also Ask boxes, customer service logs and forums reveal the natural-language questions people type or speak, from “how long does delivery take” to “what’s the difference between a fixed and variable rate”.

Next comes how you answer. The most effective content states the answer plainly in the first sentence or two beneath a heading that mirrors the question, then expands with detail and context. Concise definitions, numbered steps, short lists and comparison tables are all formats that answer engines find easy to extract and display.

Technical signals help machines interpret that content correctly. Structured data, particularly FAQ, HowTo, Product and Organisation schema, labels what each part of a page means. Clean HTML, logical heading hierarchies and fast, mobile-friendly pages make extraction more reliable.

Trust remains essential. Answer engines prefer sources that demonstrate expertise and accuracy, so clear authorship, up-to-date information and consistent facts across the web all strengthen your chances of being selected.

Measuring AEO involves tracking featured snippet ownership, People Also Ask visibility and brand presence in AI responses, alongside traditional traffic metrics. Because answers often satisfy users without a click, visibility and brand recognition become important measures of success in their own right.

At its core, AEO is about being the clearest, most reliable answer available.
